Chorus Angelorum
An elite choir founded by Gavin Carr in 2007 for special projects and tours, appearing in major venues across Europe in a repertoire ranging from the early renaissance to contemporary world-premieres
Founded in 2007 for a Gala Charity performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Bath Abbey with the English Chamber Orchestra and a matchless team of soloists led by Dame Emma Kirkby, Dame Sarah Connolly, and James Gilchrist as Evangelist, Chorus Angelorum has performed all over Europe in a repertoire ranging from early renaissance to contemporary world-premieres. Invited to perform at the Teatro Regio Turin in Messiaen’s Trois petites liturgies de la présence divine, the choir has also appeared for the Festival Emiglia-Romagna in Bologna, Montepulciano, and Llubjana in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Italian Opera Choruses. Tours to Carcassonne, Morella, Siena, Valencia and Vienna have seen the world premiere of Founder-Director Gavin Carr’s Mary Full of Grace and a host of renaissance, baroque and contemporary programmes. Chorus Angelorum has made two CDs of the music of Paul Carr, Requiem for an Angel and Seven Last Words from the Cross, which are regularly played on Classic FM radio in the UK and are available on Spotify and Amazon. The choir’s most recent tour saw a performance in the famous Matthias Church in Budapest of Kodaly’s superb Missa Brevis, plus British choral music including Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens. Upcoming projects include tours to Japan, Spain, and Australia.
